Cerrado is a region in the state of Minas Gerais - the largest coffee growing region in Brazil. We’re talking 4,500 producers on 175,000 hectares and a yield of 5.5 – 6 million bags annually. This is a big operation, and they’ve got it down to a science.
Consistent rains, high daytime temperatures, dry winters, and a rich mineral clay (known locally as “terra roxa”) make this an ideal growing region.
Coffees from this region are prevalent in Italian style coffee, and you’ll probably immediately recognize its influence.
Sweet, nutty, notes of cocoa powder.
